This poem from Don Hynes resonates right now – despite the New Year and the looking ahead perspective inevitably associated with it.
Collected and stored from about a decade ago – a time when my studio was next to a sawmill. The pyramid is gradually eaten away as the water flow removes grains and carries them over the rock shelf into the ocean. A special place and a special day.
The warm colour of wood in this landscape is startling, the process is mesmeric, and ideas start to flow too.
Burning bark gathered and stored from more than a decade ago…
Collected when I was working with a chainsaw on whole tree trunks (ash, oak and sweet chestnut) in the Ashdown Forest. Intended as raw material for ephemeral delicate creations, these much travelled natural pieces had become a burden of unfulfilled potential.
In the company of good friends and combined with a splendidly elegant glass of champagne what better way to see out 2012 (hooray) and welcome in 2013
To all my friends, supporters, followers and customers:
Wishing you warmth and light in the darkness
a nourishing renewal
and a fruitful 2013
Thank you all.
… this weekend 7th (NOW!), 8th & 9th at the Chesil Beach Centre, Portland Beach Road 10am – 4pm. Local arts & crafts as well as a range of wildlife inspired stuff to aid you in your christmas present quest; then relaxation, mince pies, mulled wine and an extraordinary view…
I shall be there on Sunday only, so pop in then if you want to see my calendars, half price canvases, table mats – even a jigsaw! Sculpture Hut vouchers will also be available – these really are a unique present and perfectly clutter free! I will also take along some small stone and wood sculptures, like this one which stands 12 inches high – ideal for a tabletop, mantel piece or shelf.
Celebrating colour, line, texture, pattern and light, these stunning photographs are printed onto canvas stretched over an 8 inch frame. They look fabulous in a grid or groups of two or three, as well as larger sets of six or nine
Entitles the holder to a half day session of creative wanderings or stone sculpture at a mutually convenient time.
A splendidly unusual gift and a perfect solution for the person who has everything!
Or perhaps simply a treat…
